Gibson Launches New Angus Young Signature
SG Line
The
Gibson Custom Shop is now offering its reproduction of one of
the world’s most renowned SGs in the form of the Angus Young SG,
a Limited Edition that captures the tone, look, and feel of this
rare specimen among a classic breed, but which updates this
legendary guitar with custom modifications requested by Angus
himself.
Angus Young acquired his 1968 SG Standard in 1970, and has used
it on all major AC/DC recordings and many tours since the band’s
inception in 1973. Young’s ’68 SG is known to be a superb
example of this model, with an unusually slim neck, pickups that
blend just the right proportions of power and sweetness, and a
resonant, vocal tone that represents the best of the SG formula.
Listen closely to any classic AC/DC tune, and the tone is huge,
but not filthy or fizzy.
Angus’s ’68 SG achieves a stunning clarity and definition right
within its bone-crushing thump and grind. With utmost attention
to detail, the Angus Young SG seeks to achieve that tone, aided
by a pair of custom-spec Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates humbucking
pickups. And with 50 guitars out of the total run of 250 aged
in-house by Gibson and signed by Angus himself, this outstanding
Custom Shop reproduction also nails the look of this legendary
guitar, with upgraded modifications at Angus’s request,
including an ebony fingerboard with “lightning bolt” inlays (a
further 200 guitars will receive the VOS treatment). The Custom
Shop Angus Young SG will also be sold with a custom Certificate
of Authenticity, a Gibson Custom Shop hardshell case, and a full
range of owner’s manuals and instruction sheets.
Along with the Gibson Custom Shop model, the company is issuing
the Gibson USA Angus Young SG model.

Seymour Duncan unveils Triple Shot Switch Mounting
Ring
For years, guitar
modders have known the secrets of getting vastly
different tones out an electric guitar by changing
the wiring of the humbucker pickups. Typically
humbuckers are wired in “series,” for the “loud and
proud” sound that most folks associate with these
popular pickups.
But there
are additional tonal options available.
For
example, one can make a humbucker sound more like a
single coil pickup by splitting off one the coils –
some people call this “tapping a pickup.” Or, some
arrange to have the pickup wired in “parallel,”
which lowers the output, raises the resonant peak,
and retains hum-cancelling.
How is
this electronic sleight of hand accomplished?
Usually by mini-toggle switches, push-pull
potentiometers, or “super” lever switches. All of
these methods have disadvantages: either they offer
limited switching options, or they require drilling
holes in the top of your guitar.
Seymour Duncan comes to the
rescue with the Triple Shot switching mounting ring.
This stealth device functions as a standard
humbucker or Trembucker mounting ring, but it
cleverly hides two small “rocker” switches that
allow for a humbucker to be wired in series,
parallel, or split – and when split, either coil can
be active, it’s up to you. Now, you can make wiring
changes without touching your knobs, pickup selector
or toggle switches.

Triple
Shot is easy to install and works with any
four-conductor Seymour Duncan humbucker or just
about any of our competitor’s pickups. Just connect
the pickup’s leads to a small color coded circuit
board which adheres to the inside cavity of your
guitar and connect the circuit board to your ground
and hot connection. That’s it. Triple Shot requires
no permanent modification to your guitar.
MSRP: $69 set. See
Seymour Duncan’s official site
for more details.

Dexter Music Center is
gearing up to unleash the new Blackout Pickups from Seymour
Duncan to the hard rock and metal players of the world.
The Blackout pickups
are the Seymour Duncan answer to the highly popular EMG pickups
that many of today's top players swear by to get the sound they
want.

Here is some info
on the new Blackout Pick-ups from Seymour Duncan.
Application
9-volt active humbucker for aggressive playing styles.
Recommended for old school metal, garage, punk, thrash, drop
tunings, and other heavy rock styles.
Description
The "other" USA-made active humbuckers use unbalanced inputs
in a differential preamp. The problem is, an unbalanced
differential preamp is not very effective at cancelling hum. Our
engineers figured out how to capture the tone that players want
in an active design, but using balanced inputs. The result is
12dB to 14dB less noise, plus more lows, more highs, and more
output. Simply put, Blackouts have more tone than other active
pickups.
Complete
setup
Blackouts are available in individual neck and bridge
models, or as a two-pickup set. All versions come with all
necessary mounting hardware, including pots, jack, and a battery
clip.
Guitars
For all humbucker guitars. The blade magnets make this pickup
suitable for both humbucker and Trembucker string spacings.
